a week away + an unattended sump pump= wet wet basement
Well, we returned from an AWESOME vacation to Arizona last night. We had a fantastic time with my parents and Jason's parents. Jason, my dad, his dad, my uncle and my brother-in-law hiked the Grand Canyon, complete with an overnight stay at the Phantom Ranch at the bottom. What an adventure! The weather was beautiful and we had a great time enjoying the sun and pool!!
We got back last night, and around 10:30, Jason wandered downstairs to "check" on everything....and he suddenly found his socks soaking wet. Our sump pump apparentlly forgot to work....and flooded the entire basement with water. Nearly every inch of carpet in the basement is wet!! We were so grateful and relieved to find the rider on our home insurance with the sump pump!! Thanks to our wonderful insurance agent, we are covered! The restoration company is currently in our basement vacumming up loads of water! The pad has been removed as well as the base boards, but the carpet seems salvageable...so another adventure in home ownership! Thankfully, it seems the "flood" happened within the last day or so, otherwise, they have told us the smell would have been remarkable!
I have lots of pics to post from Arizona...and from our basement "remodel"...but for now...I'm off to continue unpacking and resettling into home. I find it very unfortunate to be back in long pants and long sleeves...the sunshine and upper 80's were SO nice!!
