we've been in canada, eh?

Jason and I just enjoyed a wonderful getaway to Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. We enjoyed 4 nights at the beautiful Fairmont Chauteau resort courtesy of a trip Jason qualified for for work. It was an amazing trip and one that we probably would never have splurged for ourselves. Reagan and Bryce were in the excellent care of Jason's mom and sister (thank you SO MUCH!) and we ventured off ALONE! We had a choice of 10 destinations with his trip reward and I am so glad we picked Whistler....it was beautiful beyond measure! It was quite a trek getting out there, a 12 hour travel day there and back, but the sights...superb!
The view from the top of the ski lifts. We enjoyed some hiking (so did NOT enjoy the horseflies and mosquitoes that followed us!) up top and saw some incredible sights.

This is a pic from the peak to peak gondola. It is the only one of it's kind in existence. It spans 2 mountain top peaks. It is the longest unsupported lift span of 1.88 miles. And it's the highest lift of its kind at 1427 ft. Yes, it was scary! I'm not sure this pic does it justice, but you can see the little gondolas hanging on the cables....it was amazing!

The weather was unseasonably warm while we were there. It was high 80's into the 90's the entire time, which we are used to for sure! Everyone was complaining about the high humidity (at 55%), which was rather amusing since it can be close to 100% in the summer in the midwest! Since it was Canada, everyone talks Celsius so everyone would always comment, "it was 36 degrees today, can you believe it?"...which made absolutely no sense to us!

This is me on the inukshuk on Whistler Mountain. It is actually one of the mascots for the 2010 Winter Olympic games which will be held in Vancouver and Whistler.
Some of the lifts were quite precarious....

Here are the other mascots for the Olympic games. Quatchi is on the left, he's a sasquatch. Sumi is in the middle, he's the mascot for the Paralympic Games.Miga is on the right, he's a combo of a whale and a bear. I'm missing one, Mukmuk, the marmot, not sure where he was! We brought back a mini Quatchi and Miga for the kids.

This is a pic of our resort...huge, beautiful...we were spoiled and pampered. I was so sad to come home and find out I have to resume making meals for myself (and 3 others!) and do my dishes! We had a breakfast package on our room, and to give you an idea, breakfast was $68 for us every morning! Wow!
We had a wonderful trip...it seemed like the perfect length, 4 nights. I was so excited to see the kids on Saturday. The time change has been hard both ways, but we are readjusting to things around here and I'm making my way through the laundry piles. I'm off...plenty to do. Enjoy the pics!
