State Finals

 

The band had an amazing run at State Finals.  They came into State Finals in 7th Place, the highest placement in many many years, which was very exciting.  (Little backstory, the placement of the Flights, how they organize the bands, is by school size, not band size.  Our band is quite small for the size of our school (MB is not mandatory to be in the band program), so we compete against schools our size in enrollment, but with 2-3X the numbers of kids on the field.  More kids=more sound, etc.).  They had a GREAT run, most kiddos said it was the BEST run of the entire year.  When we got to the awards, they announce in reverse order, starting with 10th place.  I was all ready to record starting at 7th, most of us confident we would move up with that performance...and then they announced us in 9th place.  It was like a gut punch...the kids were just stunned!  So hard to believe and a crappy end to a really great season.  It was a quiet bus ride home...but we are so incredibly proud of these kids and what they accomplished this year!  Way to go Reagan!!

I was really thankful it worked for me to travel with the bands and chaperone this trip again this year.  (I'm not sure I loved being assigned 2-3 am to check rooms and hallways and waking kiddos up at 5:15 am for the day...but ahem...)I loved being with the band and it's really fun to be on the field at Ford Field with the kids and experience it with them.  Great great season!!
